Google Expands TSMC Partnership for Tensor Chip Production, Ensuring Innovation Through 2029

Google is set to reveal its Pixel 10 lineup later this year, featuring the next iteration of its SoC — the Tensor G5. This new chipset is reportedly being developed in collaboration with TSMC. As we anticipate the launch of the new Pixel smartphones equipped with this custom chip, a report from China indicates that Google plans to maintain its collaboration with TSMC for several more years. It is expected that the partnership will extend at least through the Pixel 14 series, projected for 2029.

Google to Maintain TSMC Partnership for the Next 3–5 Years

According to a report by Digitimes, Google is reinforcing its partnership with the Taiwanese semiconductor sector. The report suggests that Google executives traveled to TSMC in Taiwan to explore long-term collaboration, hinting at a multi-year alliance that could cover upcoming Pixel devices, including the anticipated Pixel 14 series in 2029.

«The collaboration between the two entities is expected to endure for several years, at least until the Pixel 14 phase, which is around three to five years away,» the report noted. Furthermore, Google’s partnerships with Taiwanese companies are expected to broaden into areas like cloud-based TPU chips, IC design, servers, and liquid cooling technologies (translated).

The forthcoming Pixel 10 series, anticipated for a late 2025 launch, will reportedly introduce Google’s Tensor G5 chip manufactured by TSMC. It is expected to use a 3nm fabrication process. The lineup is likely to feature four variants — Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Earlier leaks imply that the Tensor G5 chip will introduce hardware modifications and enhancements compared to the Tensor G4. It may include an always-on compute (AoC) audio processor, the Google Emerald Hill memory co-processor, Google GXP (DSP), and the Google EdgeTPU. The Tensor G5 is expected to feature Arm Cortex CPU cores and include a GPU from Imagination Technologies DXT.
