Google Brings Innovative AI Search Mode to India: Enhancing Queries with Voice and Image Inputs

Google is rolling out AI Mode in Google Search to India, marking the feature’s first international rollout. Initially introduced in March to a limited group of users in the US, the Mountain View tech company expanded access to all US users during May’s Google I/O event. This iteration of AI Mode is missing certain capabilities, such as the two-way real-time voice interaction feature known as Search Live. However, users in India will have the opportunity to utilize the feature through Google Lens for image-based searches.

India Marks the First Global Introduction of AI Mode in Search

In a blog announcement, the tech giant revealed the launch of the AI functionality. It is currently part of Search Labs, which includes experimental features for Google Search. Once users enroll, they can activate AI Mode directly from the site. Upon activation, users will notice the new AI Mode option located beneath the search box on the results page, positioned on the far-left side before the All and News sections.

Google emphasized that AI Mode operates on a tailored version of the Gemini 2.5 large language model (LLM), equipped with inherent reasoning abilities. This signifies that the feature will leverage additional computing power to tackle more intricate queries. Importantly, it employs the company’s query fan-out approach, enabling AI Mode to dissect queries into smaller topics and conduct multiple parallel searches for each one.

AI Mode is presently accessible on both desktop web versions and the Google app. Furthermore, users can capture an image of an item using Google Lens and subsequently process that image through AI Mode to obtain a more detailed response. The Search feature also accommodates voice input, allowing users to verbalize their queries rather than having to type them out.

Additionally, a report from 9to5Google indicated that the US version of this feature is undergoing an enhancement. Google is supposedly offering prompt suggestions to AI Mode users based on their search history. This means that users will now receive prompt ideas tailored to the topics they have recently searched for, thereby increasing relevance. These prompts are said to refresh each time a user accesses the “Meet AI Mode” page via the Google app, Search widget, or Pixel Launcher shortcuts.
