GoDaddy Secures Patent for Anti-Spam Technology to Safeguard Domain Name Search Services

GoDaddy, a prominent domain registrar, has been granted a patent (number 12316600) by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a technology designed to safeguard domain name search services from overwhelming bot and malicious actor requests.

According to industry experts, this issue is quite pressing for major registrars, who frequently confront significant volumes of requests originating from bots and nefarious entities. These malicious users aim to identify and register large numbers of available domain names for illegal purposes. Such practices can strain the operational resources of companies, often resulting in legitimate customers experiencing prolonged wait times for their inquiries or, in some cases, no response at all.

GoDaddy’s newly patented technology aims to address this challenge. The company intends to analyze user query histories and evaluate behavioral patterns. If the analysis raises any red flags, a dedicated system will implement temporary additional authentication measures for that user, such as CAPTCHA protection.

As reported by Domain Name Wire, GoDaddy’s security system leverages machine learning algorithms to assess the profiles and actions of requesters. This allows trustworthy users to receive priority, while those deemed suspicious encounter protective barriers. It is noteworthy that GoDaddy’s patent review process at the patent office was notably swift, with the application submitted only at the end of November the previous year.
