Gauff Acknowledges Paolinis Skill After Rome Final Defeat

The world’s third-ranked tennis player, American Coco Gauff, reflected on her defeat in the final of the WTA 1000 clay tournament in Rome, Italy, where she lost to Italian player Jasmine Paolini with a score of 4-6, 2-6.

«I take pride in my performance at both tournaments, but I am also disappointed that I couldn’t play my best in the final. Jasmine played excellent tennis today and made me uncomfortable on the court. Honestly, she deserved to win; she is a formidable opponent on clay.

Against certain opponents, I know I need to adopt a more aggressive approach and take some risks that might not feel completely comfortable for me. That’s why I ended up making more double faults; I didn’t want to relinquish control,» Gauff stated during the press conference.

Earlier, Gauff had also lost to Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Madrid Masters, with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-7 (3-7).
