Former Nigerian Goalkeeper Peter Rufai Passes Away at 61

Former Nigerian national team goalkeeper **Peter Rufai** has passed away at the age of 61. This news was reported by ESPN Africa on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). Rufai was a part of the team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994.

The Nigerian goalkeeper had a career with several European clubs across Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal. Notably, he played in nine matches for Deportivo.

Rufai represented the national team in two World Cups, participating in the tournaments held in the USA in 1994 and in France in 1998. Throughout his time with the Super Eagles, he made 66 appearances and even scored a penalty during a qualifying match for the Africa Cup against Ethiopia.
