First Images of the New Russian Electric Car Molniya Revealed, Positioned as a Competitor to Tesla

The official website of the «Best Industrial Design of Russia» award has released photographs of the prototype for the upcoming electric vehicle «Lightning,» which is built on a domestic universal modular platform. The vehicle is noted to be comparable to models such as the Tesla Model 3, Zeekr 007, and BYD Han.

«Lightning» is being developed as a D-class sedan that seats five, with at least 70% of its components localized. One of the project’s unique aspects is the vehicle’s integration into the digital urban infrastructure, a feature that its creators believe will provide a competitive edge over foreign counterparts.

According to the text on the award’s website, the project’s authors have aimed to retain distinctive design elements reminiscent of «Moskvitch» cars from previous decades, with the vehicle embodying the spirit of the city of Moscow. Technical details of the car have not been disclosed.
