Finals of the Rostec Case Championship: Students Propose Strategies to Attract Youth to Technical Professions

At Rostec, a case championship for students from MGIMO, MAI, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, and MIREA has come to a close. Participants presented strategies aimed at attracting school students to technical disciplines and increasing the popularity of engineering and vocational professions. The top performers will receive the Sergey Chemezov Scholarship, named after the CEO of the State Corporation.

The championship gathered 120 participants, with 33 advancing to the finals and forming six teams. The concepts, budgets, and media plans developed by the participants are expected to be utilized by Rostec and its subsidiaries, as well as by the Union of Machine Builders, ASI, and the Agency for the Development of Professional Skills. Rostec hopes that these initiatives will help draw more youth into technical universities and the Corporation’s enterprises.

“The participants of the case championship are recent high school graduates, many of whom are studying in the educational and professional tracks of the ‘Wings of Rostec’ and ‘Rostec.Biotekmed’ programs and have already been employed at our facilities since their first year. They have chosen to develop in high-tech industries and are well-positioned to share insights on how to enhance communication within our enterprises to boost both competition and the quality of applicants. Meanwhile, MGIMO students, with their humanities background, excel in social surveys, the ‘packaging’ of communication solutions, and presentations. This combination seemed to us the most effective,” noted Nikolai Volobuev, a member of the Bureau of the Union of Machine Builders of Russia and Deputy General Director of Rostec.

Among the proposed interaction formats with the target audience were virtual engineering laboratories, mobile labs, specialized constructors, a centralized museum of Rostec, integration into virtual military simulations, a unified online platform for prospective students with information on career guidance initiatives, a series of videos and lectures, and much more.

The effectiveness of the proposed campaigns was assessed not only on financial returns but also by the number of clicks and online applications for the Corporation’s educational programs, social media engagement, overall outreach to the target audience, and other metrics.

Participants from four of the six finalist teams, who presented the best projects, will receive a six-month named scholarship from the Corporation’s General Director Sergey Chemezov and will have the opportunity to intern at the Corporation’s departments and organizations, including the implementation of their proposed solutions.
