Falling Laptop Sales in Russia Amid Price Reductions

In the first quarter of 2025, laptop sales in Russia saw a decrease. In monetary terms, the market contracted by 12%, amounting to 53.3 billion rubles, while the quantity sold dropped by 4% to 882,000 units. The average price of laptops fell from 62,000 to 60,000 rubles.

The market is currently led by Asus, Huawei, and Honor, though the market shares of Asus and Huawei have declined compared to last year. Representatives from MSI, Honor, and Asus have not commented on the situation, and Huawei has also declined to provide a statement.

Retailers attribute the decline to weak demand and price reductions amid an excess of inventory. Some sellers are offering discounts of 10% or more. A representative from Marvel-Distribution pointed out the impact of the high key interest rate and the seasonal slowdown typically seen at the beginning of the year.

In 2024, Russia recorded the sale of 3.9 million laptops worth 242 billion rubles, representing a 6% increase from 2023. During that time, Asus, Huawei, and Honor were still the leading brands, while the market shares of American companies like Dell, HP, and Apple decreased. For the first time, Russian brands surpassed American ones in market share.

According to a representative from M.Video-Eldorado, Asus laptops generated the highest revenue. Huawei, however, saw a rise in unit sales. OCS believes that in the first quarter, the market in rubles declined by less than 5%, while the quantity actually grew by 10%.

Conversely, «Kholodilnik.ru» reports that sales dropped by 9% in quantity and 11% in monetary terms. The most significant decline occurred in March, with a 21% decrease in revenue and a 16% drop in quantity sold. Brands like MSI, Lenovo, Apple, and Honor are notably affected.

Forecasts suggest that the laptop market could diminish by another 10–15% in quantity and by 15–20% in monetary terms in 2025. The primary factors contributing to this trend are the high key interest rates and sluggish demand.
