Facing Vulnerability: Rublev Opens Up About Losing a Testicle

The eighth-ranked tennis player in the world, Russian athlete **[Andrey Rublev](https://example.com)**, shared how he came to discuss the possibility of having his testicle amputated. In September 2024, he underwent surgery.

**»At the end of the season, you shocked everyone by sharing your story, mentioning that it was a matter of seconds and minutes, and you could have lost a testicle. I have to give you major respect for that because it’s remarkable that someone can openly share such intimate details and do so in a genuine way. You sat at a press conference and said, ‘Friends, I almost lost my testicle.’ What made you come to that decision?»**
— «I’m not sure; maybe it was silly of me to do that, I really don’t know (laughs). I don’t have a definite answer. On one hand, it does seem a bit foolish, but on the other hand, everyone has their struggles. Nobody is perfect. So, what does it matter? Let others see that everyone has their own issues (smiles).»

**»You brought it up twice; it wasn’t just a one-time thing.»**
— «Yeah, I know I mentioned it twice (laughs). Twice! And I even repeated myself! I stumbled on the same point two times. But then you start to look beyond your own feelings and emotions and recognize that everyone has unique health issues and concerns about their bodies. This kind of situation happens to many people. And what about other serious issues? God forbid, there are health problems or someone has their own anxieties about their body and feels something isn’t right. Why be ashamed when everyone has their own problems?» Rublev expressed in an interview with «Bol’she!».
