F2Pool Co-Founder Leads SpaceXs Fram2 Mission into Orbit

Co-founder of the F2Pool mining pool, Wang Chun, has ventured into orbit as part of SpaceX’s Dragon Fram2 mission.

The entrepreneur noted that he has become the 681st individual to cross the Karman line and the 626th person to reach orbit.

Wang Chun is the first well-known representative from the cryptocurrency sector to journey into space aboard a spacecraft he financially backed.

SpaceX’s 36th flight launched in 2025 from Kennedy Space Center (LC-39A). The Crew Dragon C207 «Resilience» embarked on a global circumnavigation, traversing the South and North Poles, with a landing in the Pacific Ocean off the California coast.

Elon Musk’s company confirmed the successful launch of the Falcon 9 rocket, sending a reusable spacecraft into polar orbit at a speed of 27,589 km/h, reaching an altitude of 435 km above the Earth’s surface.

Wang Chun is among the pioneers of the cryptocurrency industry, having started mining digital currency back in 2011. He later co-founded F2Pool, as well as providing validator and staking services through Stakefish for Proof-of-Stake based blockchains.

In 2017, he expressed his opposition to the activation of Segregated Witness.

Chun led the mission as part of the Fram2 project, joined aboard the Dragon Resilience spacecraft by cinematographer and module commander Janike Mikkelsen, electrical engineer and pilot Rabea Rogge, as well as polar region explorer and medical expert Eric Phillips.

During the multi-day expedition, the crew will conduct 22 studies aimed at «enhancing humanity’s capabilities for extended space missions and examining the effects of space on human health.» Experiments include the first X-ray in space, maintaining muscle and bone mass in microgravity, and growing mushrooms in orbit.

Preparations for the mission commenced in August 2024, featuring comprehensive training provided by SpaceX.

The project’s cost remains undisclosed.

In December of the previous year, the Spacecoin team announced the launch of a satellite designed to ensure the security of blockchain protocols in outer space.

Earlier, Geometric Energy Corporation had booked a lunar launch through SpaceX for the DOGE-1 satellite. This mission was fully funded using the cryptocurrency Dogecoin.

Previously, another space mission involving the DOGE community, which aimed to send a physical wallet containing the meme coin to the Moon, ended in failure. This initiative was part of Astrobotic’s Peregrine Mission One project.
