This isn’t an especially thrilling upgrade, and it completely omits Apple Intelligence, but the newest base-level tablet from Apple still manages to satisfy the majority of its users without much fuss.

Pros

  • A16 chip is adequately powerful for typical iPad tasks
  • Twice the storage and an additional 2GB of RAM compared to last year’s version at the same price
  • Solid build quality and impressive battery longevity
  • iPadOS continues to feature the most comprehensive app ecosystem for tablets
  • Lacks Apple Intelligence
Cons

  • Display could use some improvements
  • Apple Pencil compatibility remains inconvenient
  • Magic Keyboard Folio is cost-prohibitive and less than ideal for lap use
  • Devices with M-series chips are likely more future-proof
  • Lacks Apple Intelligence

Recently, Apple has been actively refreshing multiple devices, including the standard iPad. The new iteration of the entry-level tablet now comes equipped with an A16 processor that is more than sufficient for the needs of most users. According to senior reporter Jeff Dunn, while the iPad Air presents a superior choice for those willing to invest extra, «the iPad (A16) performs admirably at $250 less than the latest Air, catering well to the usual iPad users,» he states. «It’s not the most thrilling iPad, but it’s adequate for the majority.»
