Ehlers Discusses Rapid Contract Negotiation with Carolina Hurricane: A Focus on Team Success Over Salary

Forward **Nikolaj Ehlers** has shared his thoughts on his transfer from the Winnipeg Jets to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Danish winger has signed a six-year deal with the Hurricanes, featuring an average annual value of $8.5 million.

«When I signed this contract, money wasn’t my primary concern. The discussions about compensation wrapped up in just a few minutes. I wasn’t aiming for something outrageous in terms of salary; my main goal was to play for a competitive team and be part of a great group of guys. I believe I can find that in Carolina. I also feel this deal is fair, as I consider myself a solid player and understand the value I can bring to the team. My aim now is to help the team keep progressing in the right direction over the next eight years,» Ehlers stated, as quoted by the club’s press service.

In the previous season, the 29-year-old Ehlers played 69 games for the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL regular season, accumulating 63 points (24 goals and 39 assists) with a plus-minus rating of +15. In the playoffs, he registered 7 points (5 goals and 2 assists) in 8 games. Ehlers was selected by Winnipeg in the first round, ninth overall, during the 2014 NHL Draft.
