Director of Chernobyl Johan Renck Takes the Helm of Assassin’s Creed Series for Netflix

According to Variety, the Netflix adaptation of Assassin’s Creed has found its director. Swedish filmmaker Johan Renck, known for his work on HBO’s miniseries Chernobyl and several episodes of Breaking Bad, will helm the project.

It remains unclear whether Renck will be the sole director for all episodes of the series or if other directors will also come on board. For the aforementioned Chernobyl, he directed all five episodes himself, earning an Emmy for this achievement.

The live-action series based on Assassin’s Creed was first announced back in 2020, but only recently started showing signs of activity. The plot details are still under wraps, but it is known that the narrative revolves around the secret conflict between two factions: the Assassins and the Templars.

Casting for the show is already underway, with confirmed actors including Toby Wallace (Bikers) and Lola Petticrew (Say Nothing) set for leading roles, alongside Zachary Hart (Slow Horses) and Laura Marcus (Struck by Lightning).

Filming for the adaptation is scheduled to begin in Italy in 2026, with no premiere date announced for the streaming platform at this time.
