Devastating Assault: Russia Strikes Ukraine with 40 Missiles and 580 Drones, Resulting in Fatalities and Injuries

Russia launched a significant assault on Ukraine, firing 40 missiles and approximately 580 drones, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuring many more, as reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday.

Despite ongoing efforts led by the U.S. to facilitate peace negotiations, Russia has continued its barrage of drones and missiles, with Kyiv accusing Moscow of intentionally obstructing peace initiatives.

According to Zelensky, one of the overnight missile strikes involved cluster munitions that directly hit an apartment complex in Dnipro, a city in the east of Ukraine.

«Throughout the night, Ukraine was subjected to an extensive attack from Russia, with the enemy launching 40 cruise and ballistic missiles along with around 580 various drones,» Zelensky stated on social media.

«As of now, there are numerous injuries reported from the bombardment, and regrettably, we have confirmed three fatalities,» he added.

Serhiy Lysak, head of the military administration in the Dnipropetrovsk region, confirmed that the strikes resulted in one death and 26 injuries, with one man in critical condition.

Zelensky expressed gratitude to the military personnel who defended the skies during the night, including the F-16 pilots who demonstrated their skills. He added, «Ukraine faced a massive attack from Russia overnight. The aggressor launched 40 missiles—both cruise and ballistic—alongside approximately 580 drones of different types.»

In northern Ukraine, Vyacheslav Chaus from the Chernihiv regional administration reported that a drone strike resulted in the death of a 62-year-old man.

A nationwide air alert was declared in Ukraine, with reports of additional strikes in the regions surrounding the capital, Kyiv.

Local official Serhiy Tyurin indicated that around 20 residential buildings in the Khmelnytskyi region were damaged, and a body was discovered amid firefighting efforts in one of the residences.

On the other hand, Russian officials claimed that their forces successfully countered «massive» Ukrainian offensives in the Volgograd and Rostov regions, while one person sustained injuries in the Saratov area.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 149 Ukrainian drones during the night.

For months, Russian forces have been advancing in eastern Ukraine, aiming to gain control over the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Hope for a ceasefire has dwindled since U.S. President Donald Trump held private meetings with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky last month.

On Friday, Estonia reported that three Russian military aircraft breached its airspace, raising alarms within the EU and NATO regarding potential provocations from Moscow, which denied these accusations.

The alleged Russian violation occurred amidst heightened tensions along NATO’s eastern border after Warsaw reported that approximately 20 Russian drones flew over its territory, a claim the Kremlin refuted.

In response, the U.K., Germany, and France have declared plans to enhance joint air patrols by deploying more aircraft along NATO’s eastern flank.
