Denmarks Intelligence Agency Warns of Potential Russian Interference in Greenlands Upcoming Elections

Denmark’s intelligence agency (PET) announced on Friday that it is keeping an eye on potential Russian interference in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Greenland, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark.

«The authorities are vigilantly observing any possible foreign influence in relation to the elections for the Inatsisartut set for March 11, 2025,» PET stated in its announcement.

The agency pointed out that Russia has a vested interest in creating divisions within NATO and perceives the growing U.S. presence in Greenland as a challenge to its own interests.

In the weeks preceding the revelation of Greenland’s election date, PET identified numerous fake social media accounts, including some masquerading as Danish and Greenlandic politicians, which it indicated contributed to a split in public opinion.

No concrete connections to any foreign entities have been confirmed.

Earlier this month, Greenland’s parliament enacted legislation prohibiting anonymous and foreign contributions to political parties to protect against external interference.

In late December, former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed a desire to purchase Greenland, an Arctic island rich in resources, including vast untapped mineral and oil reserves.
