Data Miners Uncover Intriguing Details and Screenshots Leaked from Far Cry 7

Data miners have delved into the files of the now-defunct XDefiant and uncovered notable images linked to the upcoming Far Cry 7. This discovery has been addressed by respected insider Tom Henderson, who sought to clarify certain aspects.

As Henderson correctly pointed out, the data miners misunderstood their findings. They claimed the screenshots depicted Alaska, but players can clearly see jungles and Mayan pyramids, which clearly point towards Mexico.

This confusion stems from the rocky development process of the game. Initially, Far Cry 7 was in production under the codename Talisker, but development was later restarted, dividing the title into two parts. The multiplayer mode was spun off into a separate project — an extraction shooter set in Alaska with the working title Maverick, while the main Far Cry 7 project was given the codename Blackbird.

According to Henderson, the events of Blackbird will indeed take place in Mexico. In one of the screenshots, players can spot a giant rat dragging a human corpse, hinting at one of the narrative elements that has persisted since the Talisker era — players will encounter mutated creatures that have escaped from scientists following experiments.

Henderson specified that the mutants will appear exclusively in Blackbird, while Maverick is expected to feature familiar wildlife such as wolves and bears. These animals will pose a threat to players during their evacuation, along with competing opponents and AI soldiers.

Currently, the development of the Far Cry series is in the hands of Vantage Studios — a newly established subsidiary of Ubisoft that brings together staff from studios in Montreal, Quebec, Saguenay, Sherbrooke, Barcelona, and Sofia. Full-scale announcements for Far Cry 7 have yet to be made, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the debut trailer in the near future.
