CZ: Most AI Agent Tokens Are 99.99% Useless, Urges Industry to Focus on Real Utility

At the Token2049 conference, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao urged the crypto industry to develop AI agents with tokens that demonstrate «real utility,» labeling most existing examples as «useless.» This was reported by The Block.

«I want to see genuine AI agents that provide real benefits, that can actually assist you, alongside their tokens. There are platforms for AI tokens where you can click a button and have an AI with your name. That token is worthless; 99.99% of them are useless,» CZ stated.

He emphasized that artificial intelligence is set to completely transform the user experience within the crypto space and alter the way individuals interact with blockchain technology. Furthermore, he mentioned that cryptocurrency could become the payment method for AI:

«AI won’t be swiping cards or receiving SMS codes; that doesn’t work for AI. It will be cryptocurrency.»

Zhao also pointed out that the publicly available data for training AI has been exhausted, and blockchain technology can facilitate the collection of new information while preserving user privacy and allowing monetization.

Previously, CZ had stressed the importance of focusing on the practical benefits of AI projects rather than just launching tokens, which might not be useful for every initiative.

«While cryptocurrency serves as a currency for AI, not every agent needs its own token. They can charge for services using existing cryptocurrencies. Launch a token only if you have scale. Focus on utility, not tokens,» Zhao urged.

It is worth noting that experts at Sygnum believe that tokens associated with AI agents could emerge as a major trend in 2025, although they largely remain speculative assets.
