Connecting Continents: The Visionary Proposal for a Putin-Trump Tunnel by Elon Musk’s Boring Company

A Russian presidential economic envoy and chief negotiator for peace talks in Ukraine has suggested the construction of an $8 billion underwater tunnel that would connect Alaska to Russia, with the assistance of Elon Musk’s tunneling firm.

Kirill Dmitriev, who serves as the Kremlin’s special envoy for international economic and investment collaboration, stated on Thursday that the Boring Company, led by Musk, could complete the project in about eight years.

“Imagine connecting the United States and Russia, the Americas and Afro-Eurasia, with the Putin-Trump Tunnel — a 70-mile connection representing unity,” Dmitriev shared on social media platform X.

He indicated that the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which he leads, along with unnamed “international partners,” could provide funding for the initiative, leveraging the expertise gained from Russia’s recent bridge to China.

Dmitriev’s suggestion was inspired by newly released documents from U.S. Congress concerning the late President John F. Kennedy, which included his vision for a “World Peace Bridge” linking Alaska and Siberia.

According to Dmitriev, modern tunneling technology could turn Kennedy’s Cold War era dream into reality for under $8 billion.

He did not clarify whether he had consulted with Russian or American officials, whether Musk or the Boring Company had been approached about the project, or how existing sanctions and export limitations would impact it.

His remarks followed a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, during which they agreed to a future meeting in Budapest, Hungary, although a date was not specified.

Trump is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington on Friday to discuss the possible delivery of U.S. long-range Tomahawk missiles, a step that Putin has cautioned could exacerbate tensions between the U.S. and Russia.

As of now, Musk has not responded to Dmitriev’s proposal.
