CD Projekt Plans to Significantly Expand Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Team by Year-End, Says CFO in Exclusive Interview

Piotr Nielubowicz, the Chief Financial Officer of CD Projekt, recently shared insights about the company’s current projects and future plans in an interview.

CD Projekt is celebrating the tenth anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. A key highlight of the anniversary events will be the global tour titled «The Witcher: Music of the Continent,» which features a symphonic concert dedicated to the game’s music, starting in May. In addition to the concerts, CD Projekt has prepared «many surprises,» which will be revealed later.

Nielubowicz emphasized that the development of The Witcher IV is taking place with a modified version of Unreal Engine 5, and a team of over 400 developers is working on the project. While the release date remains unknown, it is expected to occur no earlier than 2027. This title will not factor into the financial goals for the company’s incentive program for the years 2023–2026.

Another major project mentioned by the studio is Project Orion, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Currently, more than 90 people are working on the game, and by the end of the year, the team is anticipated to grow to 160. The project is nearing readiness to enter the pre-production stage.

Meanwhile, Project Hadar, a new original IP from the studio, is gradually taking shape. The team is in the process of being assembled, and the project has moved beyond its initial phase, though details remain limited at this time.

According to Nielubowicz, the company has no plans for mergers and is not seeking external investors. The CFO of CD Projekt stresses their desire to remain an independent player in the market and to manage their own growth without external pressures. Furthermore, the company’s statutes include provisions that protect it from hostile takeovers.
