Casualties Soar to 23 in Chelyabinsk Military Factory Explosion After Rescuers Conclude Search Operations

The number of fatalities from an explosion at a military production facility in the Chelyabinsk region of central Russia has increased to 23, as announced by officials on Wednesday following the conclusion of search and rescue efforts.

The cause of the blast, which occurred on October 22 in the city of Kopeysk, has not yet been disclosed, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into potential breaches of industrial safety regulations.

According to the regional administration’s update on Telegram, “The final count of those who lost their lives in this tragedy stands at 23,” revising their previous figures of 13 deceased and 10 unaccounted for.

Footage shared on social media captured a massive fireball shooting into the night from the Plastmass plant, known for manufacturing explosives, including those for the Russian military.

The explosion resulted in significant damage, destroying one of the facility’s structures. Rescue teams worked tirelessly for a week, sifting through the debris in search of survivors and recovering bodies.

Investigators have refuted claims that a Ukrainian drone attack was responsible for the incident.
