Canaan Expands Bitcoin Miner Production in the US Through Strategic Partnership

The American division of Canaan has signed a contract to deliver approximately 6,840 Avalon A15Pro miners to Cipher Mining during the third quarter.

These miners, meant for deployment at the Black Pearl facility in Texas, will be sourced from both Canaan’s Malaysian factories and its American subsidiary.

The company described the agreement as «the first significant initiative to provide large-scale support with domestically produced equipment for American clients.»

Nangang Zhang, Chairman and CEO of Canaan, highlighted the rising demand for mining rigs due to Bitcoin reaching historic highs. He also mentioned the tariff pressures that are prompting clients to reassess their supply chains.

In a recent operational report for May, the company indicated that equipment imported from Malaysia to the United States is now subject to a 10% tariff.

«Rapid deployment, return on investment, and reliability have once again become key priorities. With our manufacturing advantages, we have established a solid reputation, expanded our market presence, and secured reliable delivery capabilities on both sides of the Pacific,» said Zhang.

Canaan launched a pilot project for manufacturing miners in the U.S. back in June.

The Avalon A15Pro offers a hashing power of 221 TH/s with an efficiency of approximately 16.6 J/TH. This shipment is expected to boost the computing power of the Black Pearl data center by a total of 1.5 EH/s.

The parties did not disclose the contract amount. According to the manufacturer’s website, the price for the lower model in the A15 lineup is $15.8 per TH/s.

As per Hashrate Index data, the average market price for machines with energy efficiency of no more than 19 J/TH has remained relatively stable in recent months, hovering around $17 per TH/s.

It’s worth noting that Bitmain, the largest manufacturer of mining equipment, announced back in December 2024 plans to establish production in the U.S., influenced in part by prolonged delays in imports of their products into the country.
