Cairn: A New Climbing Simulator from the Creators of Furi and Haven Launches This January

The studio The Game Bakers is set to launch the narrative climbing simulator Cairn on January 29. This game will be available on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5, complete with Russian subtitles. A demo version can be downloaded on both platforms.

In Cairn, players will take on the role of Aava, a skilled rock climber who leaves her family and friends behind to conquer Mount Kami, a peak that has yet to be climbed. Throughout her journey, Aava will encounter unexpected companions and discover remnants of past expeditions and an ancient culture. The developers promise nearly an hour of cinematic cutscenes featuring ten actors.

The ascent of Mount Kami is expected to take around 15 hours. The game features intuitive controls that allow players to maneuver Aava’s arms and legs seamlessly. If players fail to maintain Aava’s body position and balance, she may fall. Route planning is crucial since climbers can ascend virtually anywhere. Additionally, there is a resource management aspect, involving items like hooks, chalk, water, and food. For those looking to adjust the level of challenge, detailed difficulty settings are available.

In addition to the campaign, there will be an «Expedition» mode featuring various mountains. Players can compare their results with other climbers’ scores.

Earlier, the team at The Game Bakers created the fast-paced action game Furi and the interactive love story Haven. The soundtrack and sound design for Cairn were crafted by musician The Toxic Avenger and contributors from Limbo, Inside, and Control. The story and visual style were crafted by comic artist Mathieu Bablet.
