Backlund Extends His Tenure with Flames: 17 Years and 1066 Matches as Calgarys Captain

The Calgary Flames’ press office has announced a two-year contract extension with their captain, Swedish forward Mikael Backlund, with a cap hit of $3.25 million.

Backlund has spent his entire NHL career with Calgary, appearing in 1,066 games, making him the longest-serving active skater on the Flames. During the last season, he played 76 games, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists for a total of 32 points. Throughout his NHL career, the 36-year-old forward has accumulated 563 points (215 goals and 348 assists).

Backlund was selected by the Calgary Flames in the first round as the 24th overall pick of the 2007 NHL Draft.

In addition, the Flames recently extended the contract of goalie Dustin Wolf.
