Assassins Creed Shadows Soars to the Top: Dominates US Sales Rankings Post-Launch

Assassin’s Creed Shadows represents a significant achievement for Ubisoft. This action-adventure game has dominated sales in the US for three consecutive weeks since its debut, according to recent insights from market analysis firm Circana. Although Ubisoft has not disclosed the specific unit sales for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, they have indicated that this title marks the series’ second most successful launch.

Sales of Assassin’s Creed Shadows in the US

As highlighted by Circana’s most recent sales figures up until April 5, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has consistently been the best-selling game in the US during its initial three weeks on the shelves. Mat Piscatella of Circana shared this news in a Bluesky post on Monday, noting that Shadows is also the second best-selling game in the US for 2025 to date, only surpassed by Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds.

While Ubisoft hasn’t released sales data, Circana’s statistics indicate that the game has resonated well with players. Ubisoft reports that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has attracted over three million gamers. Additionally, the title achieved the second-highest opening day sales revenue in the history of the Assassin’s Creed series, ranking just behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which launched in 2020. Last month, Ubisoft also revealed that Shadows set the record for the highest day-one launch on the PlayStation Store for the company.

Per SteamDB data, the action-RPG set in Japan reached a record peak of 64,825 concurrent players on Steam. Assassin’s Creed Shadows was launched on Steam, Ubisoft Connect on PC, as well as on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

Ubisoft has relied heavily on this game’s success after a series of disappointing AAA titles that led to a 40 percent decline in the company’s stock price throughout 2024. Last month, the company introduced a new dedicated subsidiary focused on its major franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. This subsidiary is supported by an investment of €1.16 billion (approximately Rs. 10,694 crore) from the Chinese conglomerate Tencent, which has a minority stake in the new entity.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released on March 20 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The narrative unfolds in 16th-century Japan, featuring the journeys of two protagonists: Naoe, a shinobi, and Yasuke, a samurai.
