Argentina Unveils Alleged Russian Spy Network Behind Disinformation Campaigns

Authorities in Argentina have announced the discovery of a purported espionage network allegedly connected to Russia, aimed at advancing Moscow’s agenda through campaigns of disinformation.

Manuel Adorni, a spokesman for the presidency, revealed that intelligence officials uncovered an organization named «The Company,» which is said to have ties to the Russian government and Project Lakhta—a Moscow-based initiative accused by the United States of political meddling.

Lev Konstantinovich Andriashvili, a Russian national residing in Argentina, is reportedly leading the group alongside his wife, Irina Yakovenko, also a Russian citizen. According to Adorni, they were tasked with «securing funding and fostering relationships with local associates.»

The primary aim of this organization was «to establish a network of individuals aligned with Russian interests» to execute disinformation strategies against the Argentine government, the spokesman noted.

It is alleged that «The Company» generated and shared content across social media platforms, influencing local civic groups and NGOs, while also forming focus groups with Argentine citizens and gathering political intelligence for Russia.

«Argentina will resist the influence of any foreign nation,» Adorni asserted, emphasizing that «the well-being of the Argentine people remains a top priority.»

The U.S. Treasury Department describes Project Lakhta as a Russian-led disinformation effort targeting audiences in the United States, Europe, Ukraine, and even domestically within Russia.
