Apple Unveils Revolutionary Immersive Video Manager for Mac and Vision Pro

Apple has launched a video file manager named the [Apple Immersive Video Utility](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/apple-immersive-video-utility/id6477489398) specifically designed for the Vision Pro headset and Mac devices. This application facilitates the viewing and management of immersive videos.

According to the app description on the App Store, «Apple Immersive Video Utility for macOS enables you to import, organize, package, and view Apple Immersive Video media files on your Mac. When used in conjunction with the Apple Immersive Video Utility for visionOS, you can connect and enjoy Apple Immersive Video on the Apple Vision Pro.»

The Immersive Video Utility is available for free and has a file size of under 8 MB. Currently, it is offered only in English and requires macOS 15 (or later) and a Mac equipped with an Apple M1 chip or newer.

Apple’s immersive videos utilize a 3D 8K recording format that provides a 180° video field and supports Spatial Audio. Content captured in this format is designed for viewing on the Vision Pro headset. It is known that Apple utilizes specialized cameras for filming such videos. The company offers a catalog of clips on Apple TV featuring artists like Metallica, The Weeknd, Alicia Keys, as well as wildlife footage, hot air balloon rides, and more. They have also released a short film titled *Submerged*, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Edward Berger.

The application functions as a file manager, enabling users to sort, organize, and search for videos within their library. Additionally, users can share their videos with others through easily manageable file types for upload and import.

While the app is targeted towards a niche audience, it appears to cater more to creators of immersive video content, allowing them to check both static and dynamic metadata for their clips. Creators can «modify, rearrange package contents according to post-processing requirements, or manipulate them.»

One notable feature of the app is its ability to connect one or more Vision Pro devices for streaming playlists. The Apple Immersive Video Utility supports synchronized playback across multiple devices, making it suitable for larger groups.

Previously, the Australian company Blackmagic introduced the [URSA Cine Immersive](https://habr.com/ru/news/867428/) camera, designed for capturing spatial videos for the Apple Vision Pro. It is equipped with a specialized stereoscopic 3D lens featuring two 8K sensors and can record video at 180° with 90 frames per second, delivering an impressive resolution of 8160×7200 pixels per eye. Additionally, it offers spatial audio recording capabilities.
