Apple Delays Smart Home Hub Launch to 2026, Ties Release to Enhanced Siri Features

Reports indicate that the release of the Apple Smart Home Hub has been postponed to 2026. It may be revealed around the same time as the introduction of the new Siri. Initially set for a March 2025 launch, the delay was attributed to its dependence on new Siri functionalities that were originally expected to be part of iOS 18.4. These features are said to enable Apple’s voice assistant to utilize users’ personal information to better address their inquiries.

Anticipated Features and Launch of Apple Smart Home Hub

As per a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Apple Smart Home Hub might debut in 2026, coinciding with the anticipated unveiling of a revamped Siri. The launch of the smart home device, rumored to be codenamed J490, was initially projected for March 2025. However, it seems the tech giant decided to delay it, as the device is considerably reliant on the advanced features of Siri.

The delayed Siri functions are reported to allow the assistant to tap into users’ personal data for query responses, while simultaneously utilizing the information displayed on their screens, as noted by Gurman. Furthermore, the Apple Smart Home Hub is expected to integrate a new App Intents functionality, which will enable Siri to take “more precise” control over apps and features. This device is primarily designed for operation through voice commands, facilitated by App Intents.

Moreover, Gurman has previously stated that the Apple Smart Home Hub is envisioned to function like a wall-mounted AI tablet, providing users with a touch interface, which is rumored to be referred to as HomeOS. This interface reportedly merges elements of Apple’s operating system for smartwatches, watchOS, with the Standby mode from the iPhone.

An earlier report by Gurman also revealed that Apple is developing another variant of the Smart Home Hub that may incorporate a robotic arm and resemble an iPad in size. This speculated AI-focused device has been codenamed J595. The anticipated robotic arm, which might be affixed to the back, is thought to be capable of maneuvering around its designated platform. Gurman believes Apple aims to embed a “distinct AI personality” into this version of the smart home hub, which also appears to have faced delays.
