Algorithm Glitch Turns Threads into a Literal Echo Chamber

The algorithm of the social media platform Threads has encountered a glitch that has transformed the feed into an echo chamber. This has resulted in one user’s post being echoed by other users, making it seem as if everyone is sharing the same content.

One Threads user remarked, «Siri, unsubscribe me in 2025,» and this statement appeared in the feed of social media expert Alexa Heinrich, appearing to come from all users.

The cause of this malfunction remains unclear. Meta’s Communications Director, Andy Stone, responded to app researcher Jane Manchun Wong’s inquiry, commenting, «Oops, this definitely shouldn’t have happened! We are working on a fix.»

Currently, Threads boasts 350 million users. The bug seems to have affected only a select number of accounts on both desktop and mobile platforms.

In the spring, the social network changed its domain from Threads.net to Threads.com. Additionally, several new features were introduced to the web version of the platform, including an updated post feed display and the option to import subscriptions from X.
