AI Startup Perplexity Surges to $18 Billion Valuation Amid New Funding Round

Perplexity AI Inc., an AI-driven search engine competing with Google, has successfully raised new funding, bringing its startup valuation to $18 billion, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The company secured $100 million in this funding round, as reported by the source who requested anonymity. This deal follows a previous financing round that occurred a few months ago, during which the company was valued at $14 billion, the insider stated. These investments reflect Silicon Valley’s commitment to backing prominent AI startups.

Perplexity has declined to provide comments on this matter. Earlier, the Financial Times shared some details about the transaction.

Founded in 2022, Perplexity has quickly become one of the most recognized companies rethinking essential internet services using generative AI. Last year, the startup tripled its valuation from $1 billion to $3 billion, and then did it again a few months later.

In March, Bloomberg News revealed that Perplexity was aiming to secure up to $1 billion at an $18 billion valuation, which included funds from the earlier financing round. However, Perplexity later opted for a smaller investment amount at a valuation of $14 billion.

With this new funding round, Perplexity has managed to return to its initial valuation goal.
