AI-Powered Battery Management Set to Optimize iPhone Energy Consumption in iOS 19

Apple is set to introduce an AI-powered battery management mode in iOS 19, which is scheduled for release in September. This information comes from Bloomberg, citing insider sources.

According to the publication, this enhancement will analyze how users utilize their devices and make adjustments to conserve energy.

The new technology will be integrated into Apple’s Intelligence platform. To develop this feature, the company is gathering data from user devices regarding battery status to identify patterns and predict when it is best to reduce power consumption for specific functions.

Additionally, a new indicator will appear on the lock screen, displaying the estimated charging time for the device.

This move is part of Apple’s strategy to incorporate artificial intelligence into its products. The company announced Apple Intelligence in June 2024 and has been steadily adding new AI features since then. However, the rollout of its launch has faced delays, which Robbie Walker, senior director of Siri, described as «embarrassing and frustrating.»

A significant advancement towards energy efficiency will be the release of a compact version of the iPhone 17, seen as a simpler alternative to the standard and Pro models. Due to its slim design, this smartphone will be equipped with a much smaller battery, resulting in fewer hours of operation compared to other devices.

Through optimizing power consumption, Apple aims to mitigate the physical limitations of battery size. Meanwhile, this feature will be available to all iPhones running iOS 19.

The company is also preparing an updated «Health» app with an AI doctor, codenamed Mulberry, as well as several other enhancements.

It’s worth noting that in December 2024, Apple released a software update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, adding ChatGPT support to the Siri voice assistant.
