Actor Udo Kier Passes Away While Preparing for His Role in Kojima Productions OD

The German actor Udo Kier has passed away at the age of 81, as reported by his close ones to the publication Variety. Known for his extensive career, Kier starred in more than 200 films, but gamers may recognize him as the villain Yuri from Command & Conquer: Red Alert and Dr. Straub from Call of Duty: WWII.

Throughout his long career, Udo Kier collaborated with renowned artists and filmmakers, including Andy Warhol and Lars von Trier. Some of his most notable works include Blood for Dracula, Blade, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and Armageddon, among others.

Udo Kier was set to appear in the horror game OD by Hideo Kojima — he had featured in the game’s teaser trailer. Kojima shared his sorrow in a tribute post, saying, «I have no words. This happened too suddenly.»

Kojima recalled that due to an actors’ strike, filming had to be postponed until next year. He had communicated with Kier, and during their meeting in Milan at the end of September, Kier expressed his eagerness to start working on OD. According to Kojima, at that time, Kier was full of vigor and delighted him with his signature jokes.

As of now, it remains unclear whether Kojima Productions will seek another actor to replace Udo Kier or if his character will be removed entirely from the game. There is currently no information about the release date or platforms for OD.
