Moscows Airports Face Disruptions as Drone Threat Looms

Three of Moscow’s four airports temporarily halted operations on Wednesday as Ukrainian drones aimed for the Russian capital, according to officials.

Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports suspended both incoming and outgoing flights, while Sheremetyevo stopped arrivals but permitted some departures on a selective basis, as per Artyom Korenyako, a representative of Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency.

These measures were implemented following Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin’s announcement that air defenses had shot down three drones approaching the city.

“Emergency services are active at the sites of the incidents,” Sobyanin noted on Telegram, without providing specific details.

The airspace restrictions were lifted less than an hour later, reported Rosaviatsia.

Earlier that day, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed it had destroyed 159 Ukrainian drones overnight, and intercepted an additional 39 drones across six Russian regions and Crimea on Wednesday morning.

The military has not issued any comments regarding the midday drone attacks aimed at Moscow.
