Steam Faces $900 Million Fine Over Alleged Monopoly in the UK Gaming Market

In the UK, a lawsuit against Valve and Steam has been approved, and the case will now be heard in court. The company is accused of monopolizing the gaming market.

According to human rights advocates, Steam is violating the country’s antitrust laws. It is claimed that Valve prohibits developers from offering their games at lower prices in other stores, which enables «monopolists» to set and increase prices.

If the lawsuit is successful, Gabe Newell’s company could be required to pay British gamers compensation amounting to £656 million ($897.7 million). It remains uncertain how long the court proceedings will take.
