Teenager in St. Petersburg Attacks Teacher with Knife Following Poor Grade, Authorities Report

A ninth-grade pupil allegedly stabbed a teacher at a high school in St. Petersburg on Monday after being given a bad grade, according to Russian law enforcement.

The unnamed student attacked his 29-year-old teacher with a knife inside the educational institution, as stated by the St. Petersburg branch of the Interior Ministry.

“The incident is thought to have been provoked by the student’s dissatisfaction with his grade,” the ministry reported. Following the attack, the student attempted suicide but was apprehended by the police.

The Investigative Committee of Russia, responsible for investigating significant crimes, announced that it has opened a case for attempted murder, highlighting that the teacher suffered multiple stab wounds.

Both individuals were taken to the hospital, where they were reported to be in serious, but stable condition, as informed by the local news outlet Fontanka.

Media sources named the teacher as Maria Andreyeva, a mathematics teacher at School No. 191, and indicated that the student is the child of a history teacher employed at the same school.

Fontanka also mentioned social media claims suggesting that the student was not searched, despite metal detectors supposedly signaling the presence of a knife at the school entrance. Authorities have not publicly addressed these claims.

Reports indicate that classes resumed following the incident; however, some parents opted to pick up their children early.
