Figure Skater Dina Khusnutdinova Shares Her Favorite Tatar Song

Russian figure skater Dina Khusnutdinova revealed her favorite Tatar song.

– You have often expressed your interest in Tatar culture and your knowledge of the language. Are you considering creating a program based on Tatar themes in the future?
– I already had a Tatar program based on «Shurale,» music from a ballet. I skated to it last season, and then we switched it out, but I’m really happy that I got to perform with national music for at least a while and represent our culture. It was very meaningful to me.

At the same time, I enjoy my current programs, their themes and choreography, which we’ve discussed with the coaching staff. However, if there’s an opportunity in the future to do something Tatar again, why not? I recall that Kamila had a showcase program called «Piyala,» which was very beautiful.

– What Tatar music do you listen to? Do you have favorite artists?
– I can’t name specific favorite artists off the top of my head, as I enjoy various types of music. But regarding Tatar music, my absolute favorite song is “Tugan Yak” (translated as “native land” from Tatar). It’s incredibly soulful, and I absolutely adore it. It always resonates in my heart, especially when I miss home, — Khusnutdinova shared in an interview with Championship correspondent Rustam Imamov.
