New Sanctions: Ukraine Targets Putins Economic Envoy Kirill Dmitriev for Propaganda and Investment Manipulations

Ukraine has included Russian President Vladimir Putin’s economic representative Kirill Dmitriev on its list of sanctioned individuals for alleged crimes against the nation.

According to the Ukrainian presidential office’s statement on Sunday, the sanctions against Dmitriev were imposed for «disseminating propaganda and soliciting Russian investments in crucial sectors of foreign economies.»

Born in Kyiv, Dmitriev leads the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and participates in Russia’s negotiation teams with both the United States and Ukraine.

Last month, he made a visit to the U.S. amid growing frustration from President Donald Trump over Putin’s refusal to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine.

In response to the sanctions imposed by Ukraine, Dmitriev made a sarcastic remark in a Telegram post, humorously referring to the actions as one of two «awards» he received over the weekend.

In addition to Dmitriev, the latest sanctions from Ukraine also affect negotiator Alexander Zorin and other officials, including Oksana Lut, the Russian Agriculture Minister; Alexander Bugayev, the Deputy Minister of Education; and Andrei Omelchuk, the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education.

The statement from Ukraine’s presidency asserted that those sanctioned had «seized agricultural assets, grain crops, and cultural heritage sites,» conducted information campaigns against the state, and imposed Russian educational systems with anti-Ukrainian propaganda in occupied areas.

Furthermore, in a separate decree, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed sanctions on five Russian publishing houses implicated in propagating misinformation and supporting the large-scale invasion.
