Ukrainian Strikes on Russian Power Infrastructure Leave Thousands in Darkness

Ukrainian assaults on Russian energy facilities resulted in over 20,000 individuals losing power in border areas on Sunday, according to local officials.

Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov of the Belgorod region stated that the «electricity and heating supply network has been severely affected» in the regional capital.

«Several streets are experiencing power outages… More than 20,000 residents are without electricity,» he shared on Telegram.

In the adjacent Kursk region, Governor Alexander Khinshtein reported on Telegram that «a fire erupted at a power station in the village of Korenevo,» leading to power loss in ten municipalities.

Additionally, a fire occurred at a heating plant in the southern Voronezh region, as noted by Governor Alexander Gusev.

On the other hand, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced the destruction of 44 Ukrainian drones in the Bryansk border area.

On Saturday, Russian bombardments on energy infrastructure left Ukraine struggling to restore electricity and heating, with the national power supplier indicating that its generating capacity had dropped to «zero» by Sunday.

The attack inflicted substantial damage on Ukrainian power stations and resulted in at least four fatalities.

In recent months, Russia has intensified its strikes on Ukraine’s infrastructure, launching 69 drones at energy facilities throughout the country during the night from Saturday to Sunday, with Ukrainian air forces reporting that 34 were intercepted.
