Melania Trump Reveals Ongoing Dialogue with Putin on Reuniting Ukrainian Children

On Friday, Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States, revealed that she had been in contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the situation of children taken by Russia during the conflict in Ukraine.

During a presentation at the White House, the 55-year-old disclosed that negotiations between her team and Putin’s had led to the reunion of eight children with their families in just the last day.

Melania Trump mentioned that Putin had replied to a letter she sent through her husband, then-President Donald Trump, at a summit in Alaska in August, which did not achieve any significant progress toward resolving the Russian invasion.

«Since President Putin received my letter last August, a lot has transpired. He answered in writing, expressing a willingness to communicate with me directly and providing information about Ukrainian children currently in Russia,» she informed journalists.

«Since that time, President Putin and I have maintained an open line of communication concerning the well-being of these children.»

The former model, originally from Slovenia, noted that both parties had engaged in «multiple back-channel discussions and calls, all conducted in good faith.»

«My representative has been collaborating closely with President Putin’s team to guarantee the safe return of children to their families from Russia to Ukraine,» she explained.

«In fact, eight children have been reunited with their families in the last 24 hours,» she added, mentioning that one of them had been displaced due to the conflict and was returning from Ukraine to Russia.
