Medvedev Links U.S. Political Violence to Ukraine Support After Shooting of Conservative Figure

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev asserted on Thursday that the increasing political violence in the United States is tied to the West’s support for Ukraine. His comments came in the wake of the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was speaking at a university in Utah.

In an address from the Oval Office Wednesday night, U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the shooting, attributing it to rhetoric from the “radical left.” Kirk, a prominent ally of Trump, gained notoriety by engaging in debates with students nationwide and is the founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA.

Authorities in Utah have initiated a manhunt for the individual who shot Kirk.

In response to the tragedy, Medvedev, who currently holds the position of deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, linked the recent rise in politically motivated attacks in the U.S., including two assassination attempts against Trump, to “a variety of left-wing liberal scum backing nationalist Kyiv.”

“Who’s next? Perhaps it’s time for the MAGA crowd to understand that by supporting Ukraine, they are backing murderers,” Medvedev stated in an English-language post on X.

He did not provide further details on his claims, which echo many of the extreme and inflammatory comments he has made since the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

While there was no immediate comment from U.S. officials regarding Medvedev’s post, his earlier online statements have drawn sharp criticism from high-ranking White House officials and Trump himself.

In August, the U.S. President indicated that he had deployed two nuclear submarines in response to what he described as “provocative statements” made by Medvedev, who had previously discussed potential nuclear strikes against Western nations.
