Trump Expresses Disappointment in Putin Over Ukraine Peace Deal Failure

In a radio interview on Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his «great disappointment» regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inability to finalize a peace agreement concerning Ukraine after their recent summit in Alaska.

«I feel very let down by President Putin, that much I can confidently say,» Trump mentioned during his conversation with the Scott Jennings show when questioned about his feelings of betrayal by Putin’s actions. «We had a strong rapport, so I’m quite disheartened.»

Nevertheless, Trump did not specify any potential repercussions that Russia might encounter, even though he had previously imposed a two-week deadline for achieving a peace accord, which is set to expire later this week.

The U.S. President also stated that he is not worried about a possible alliance between Russia and China, even after Putin’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Tuesday, shortly before a large military parade.

«I’m not worried in the slightest, no,» Trump remarked.

«We possess the most formidable military globally by a significant margin, and they would never dare to use their military against us; that would be the gravest error they could commit,» he affirmed.

On Monday, when asked by Fox News about the possibility of sanctions against Russia, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mentioned that the administration would be reviewing various options for a U.S. response in the coming week.

Bessent noted that since the Alaska summit, and during an extensive phone call with Trump while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders were present at the White House, Putin «has done the exact opposite of what he suggested he wanted to achieve.»

«In fact, he has, in a truly despicable way, escalated the bombing campaign. So with President Trump, all measures are possible, and I believe we will closely assess those options this week.»
