Zelensky to Discuss War Resolution with Trump in Washington on Monday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to travel to Washington on Monday to discuss «putting an end to the violence and conflict» with U.S. President Donald Trump, he revealed on Saturday.

Zelensky made this announcement following a phone conversation with Trump, during which the U.S. president shared the key takeaways from his discussions with Russia’s Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

«On Monday, I will have the opportunity to meet with President Trump in Washington, D.C., to go over the specifics related to ceasing the violence and warfare,» stated Zelensky.

«I appreciate the invitation.»

He noted that he had an «in-depth and lengthy discussion with Trump,» which started as a private conversation before European leaders joined in.

This meeting in Washington comes just three days after Trump’s discussions with Putin in Alaska, which ended without any announcement of a ceasefire or significant progress toward resolving Russia’s ongoing invasion that has persisted for over three years.

Following the U.S.-Russia summit, Zelensky urged Europe’s allies to engage in the negotiations at «every phase.»

He also expressed his willingness to participate in a trilateral meeting with Trump and Putin—an arrangement that Kyiv has been advocating for, despite resistance from the Kremlin.

«Ukraine insists that critical matters should be addressed at a leadership level, and a trilateral approach is suitable for these discussions,» Zelensky said.
