Vivo X200 Pro: The Ultimate Camera Powerhouse That Redefines Premium Smartphones

The Vivo X200 Pro has arrived, introducing essential enhancements over the impressive X100 Pro from the previous year. It features the same remarkable 200-megapixel telephoto lens found in the X100 Ultra, which is Vivo’s top camera phone to date. The X200 Pro not only incorporates the finest attributes from the Ultra version but also presents a compelling price point, appearing to be a well-rounded device on paper. Additionally, the collaboration with Zeiss has matured into its fourth year, showcasing the global advantages of this partnership for Vivo.

Vivo has dominated the smartphone market in India, achieving impressive sales with its Y and T-series models. Conversely, the X-series remains at the pinnacle of Vivo’s smartphone offerings, solidifying its presence in the premium market. Unlike some other brands, Vivo has consistently participated in the premium segment, which has benefited them over time. Priced at Rs. 94,999, the Vivo X200 Pro appears to be an obvious choice, but does it live up to its promises? This review will provide a detailed analysis.

Vivo X200 Pro Design: Refining Excellence

  • Colors: Titanium Grey and Cosmos Black
  • Water and Dust Resistance: IP68 + IP69
  • Weight: 228 grams (Titanium Grey)

In terms of design, the X200 Pro resembles its sibling, the X100 Pro, which is certainly not a drawback. The X200 Pro builds upon this legacy while adding enhanced features. For those who haven’t kept up with the weight of premium Android smartphones, many now exceed 200 grams, a weight once deemed excessive for everyday usage nearly ten years ago. Yes, we are in a time where heavier devices have become standard. However, manufacturers have excelled in design aesthetics. Vivo has particularly outdone itself here, making the X200 Pro feel more comfortable to hold compared to competitors like the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

It has IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resilience

When first holding the X200 Pro, its weight (228 grams Titanium Grey) is noticeable; however, the elegant design facilitates a quick adaptation. If you have average-sized hands, using the X200 Pro one-handed is quite manageable. Although there is a brief adjustment period to get accustomed to its size, I appreciate the boxier shape of the X200 Pro versus the more rounded style of the X100 Pro.

The weight is 228 grams (Titanium Grey)

The display takes up most of the front panel, with the punch-hole selfie camera being minimally intrusive. The bezels surrounding the screen are quite thin. The side frame features a brushed finish that feels sturdy, accentuates straight lines, and gives a metallic appearance. The rear panel showcases a significant circular camera arrangement, larger than that found in the X100 Pro, complemented by a sunburst pattern encircling the lens which enhances the overall design. The back cover is made from glass fibre, which not only looks premium but is also resistant to smudges.

It supports dual nano SIM cards

This year, Vivo has unveiled a new color option for the X200 Pro — Titanium Grey, which is truly eye-catching. The traditional Cosmos Black is also available for those who favor a classic look. Furthermore, the X200 Pro boasts an IP68 and IP69 ingress protection rating for extra peace of mind.

In summary, the Vivo X200 Pro successfully meets the essential criteria for a premium smartphone. Its design is refined, and the prominent circular Zeiss-branded ring distinguishes Vivo devices amidst a multitude of similar-looking products.

The meticulous attention to detail, such as the sunburst pattern around the camera, is truly impressive

Vivo X200 Pro Display: Superb Quality

  • Display size: 6.78-inch AMOLED
  • Resolution: 1260×2800 pixels, 452PPI pixel density
  • Refresh rate and peak brightness: Up to 120Hz and 4500nits

The X200 Pro features the same size LTPO display as the X100 Pro. However, it boasts a significant improvement in peak brightness, now reaching 4500nits compared to the 3000nits of its predecessor. In direct sunlight, this display outshines even the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pixel 9 Pro.

The 6.78-inch LTPO display achieves a peak brightness of 4500nits

For daily use, the display on the X200 Pro is outstanding, presenting vibrant colors and maintaining brightness under various lighting conditions. Text appears crisp, making it one of the finest screens from Vivo for multimedia use, whether for streaming or gaming.

During the launch in India, Vivo asserted that the X200 Pro features Armor Glass on its front, which is tough and claims to be 11 times more resistant to drops than the X100 Pro. It also features a quad-curved display, adding to its premium appeal. Additionally, the X200 Pro incorporates 2160Hz PWM dimming, which minimizes flicker and reduces eye strain for comfortable viewing, whether during the day or night. Furthermore, it includes several Smart Eye Protection features to combat display fatigue, which is a nice touch.

The display offers a pixel density of 452PPI and supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate

Vivo X200 Pro Camera: Exceptional Choice

  • Main: 50-megapixel Sony LYT818 sensor with f/1.57 aperture, PDAF and OIS
  • Ultrawide: 50-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 119-degree field of view
  • Telephoto: 200-megapixel with PDAF and OIS
  • Selfie: 32-megapixel (fixed focus)

The X200 Pro introduces notable enhancements over the X100 Pro in the camera arena. The telephoto camera represents a major upgrade for the X200 Pro, as it boasts nearly identical specifications to the X100 Ultra, which wasn’t available in India. At its India launch, Vivo proclaimed this to be the inaugural phone featuring a 200-megapixel Zeiss APO telephoto lens, complete with Zeiss T* Coating. Thus, we have a piece of Ultra-inspired technology in the X200 Pro. It utilizes a Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor.

On the contrary, while the primary camera specifications may initially seem diminished—given that the X100 Pro offered a 1-inch sensor—the X200 Pro utilizes a 1/1.28-inch sensor, slightly smaller, which I will evaluate further. Lastly, the ultrawide lens is a 50-megapixel sensor with autofocus, and the 32-megapixel selfie camera is carried over from the previous model.

The camera interface remains familiar; however, Vivo has made efforts to simplify it for users. A new Landscape mode merges various functions, such as Night, Supermoon, Long Exposure, Astro, Landscape, Panorama, and time-lapse. Vivo has also included a street photography mode, accessible by double pressing the volume down button, perfect for taking quick shots. Now, let’s delve into the camera performance.

In daylight, the primary camera on the X200 Pro produces impressive images with an abundance of detail, accurate colors, and excellent dynamic range. This consistency is maintained across varying lighting conditions, keeping noise levels minimal. Below are samples from my testing, illustrating that the X200 Pro holds its ground against the X100 Pro based on practical usage.

The telephoto lens is the standout feature of the X200 Pro. The 3.7x zoom quality is exceptional across various lighting situations, and it excels in portrait photography as well. The detail is remarkable, and colors are vibrant. Portrait shots are stunning, with precise subject focus and impressive depth perception. Vivo has also introduced a Stage mode that effectively utilizes the 3.7x lens, ideal for concert shots. The portrait mode competes well with other top-tier smartphones while delivering beautiful results with properly emphasized subjects and accurate depth estimation. The street photography mode is equipped with quick launch features and two options—texture color and classic black and white.

Low-light photography produces equally commendable results with minimal noise and superb detail. The color rendering is excellent, and very few Android flagships can match this level of quality in low-light conditions.

Macro shots are also impressive, showcasing the X200 Pro’s capability for incredible detail capture.

The ultrawide camera does not perform as strongly; while detail and colors are acceptable, results are not comparable to those from the primary and telephoto lenses.

When it comes to zoom capabilities, the X200 Pro often surpasses even more expensive models, delivering stellar performance in this area, evidenced by the samples provided.

Selfies taken with the phone are passable, although it seems this aspect was not a primary focus during development. The selfie camera, inherited from the X100 Pro, captures acceptable skin tones during daylight but exhibits overly smoothed tones in low-light scenarios regardless of beauty mode settings. While adequate for social media, it may not meet everyone’s expectations.

Vivo clearly excels in image quality, but how does it fare for video recording? The X200 Pro performs admirably in video, supporting 4K 60fps HDR, 4K HDR Cinematic Portrait, and 120fps slow-motion recording. Overall, the X200 Pro stands out with its camera capabilities, and currently, it offers one of the best setups available on smartphones.

Vivo X200 Pro Performance: Expectations Met

  • Processor: MediaTek’s Octa-core Dimensity 9400 (3nm)
  • RAM and storage: 16GB and 512GB
  • Operating System: Funtouch OS 15 based on Android 15

Powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 (3nm) processor, the Vivo X200 Pro is an interesting choice, considering it’s the fifth consecutive year Vivo has selected MediaTek for its X-series in India. Along with Vivo, Oppo has also opted for the Dimensity 9400 in its Find X8 series this year.

In everyday operations, the X200 Pro handles all tasks—browsing, scrolling, and streaming—with ease. However, it does get noticeably warm during intensive gaming sessions or when using demanding applications. In synthetic benchmark tests, the performance is commendable but slightly lags behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC-endowed iQOO 13 and Realme GT 7 Pro.

Aside from benchmarks, everyday tasks are effortlessly managed by the phone, including editing images on applications like Canva or Photoshop. During gaming, particularly BGMI, the phone performed smoothly without any noticeable lags, even at high graphics settings.

Configured with Funtouch OS 15 based on Android 15

The X200 Pro is equipped with a high-quality haptic engine, enhancing the typing and playing experience. Furthermore, it features a powerful speaker system sufficient for a medium-sized room. The device supports Widevine L1, allowing HD streaming on platforms including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The phone is compatible with all 5G bands, and I encountered no issues connecting to Airtel and Jio networks. It also supports USB 3.2 connectivity and excels in call quality, with a built-in dialler app that offers voice recording capabilities that can be activated for all calls.

It incorporates an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner that is responsive, and Vivo has included multiple on-screen animations to enhance user experience. Additionally, a face unlock feature is present and functions reliably.

Only one configuration is available — 16GB RAM with 512GB storage

Interface and AI

The X200 Pro operates on Funtouch OS 15, built on Android 15. Vivo is commendably releasing the phone with the latest Android version, unlike other recent models that have launched with Android 14. Users can expect four years of Android operating system updates along with five years of security updates, marking a first for Vivo.

The device benefits from 4 years of OS and 5 years of security updates

This version of Funtouch OS presents a more streamlined and minimalist interface compared to previous iterations. App load times are faster, and animations are more fluid than on the X100 Pro. Customization options abound, including variations in icon styles, shapes, and sizes, as well as the ability to personalize the lock and home screen appearances. Vivo has also mentioned its new Guardian Privacy Protection Matrix, resembling Samsung’s Knox feature for Vivo devices.

AI features are integrated into the experience as well, including AI Note Assist, AI-driven signal enhancement, AI translation for screens, AI transcription assistance, live call translation by Vivo, and Circle to Search functionality. I tested several AI features such as AI Note Assist and AI screen translation, finding them to function adequately, though there is room for improvement.

A variety of preinstalled applications are included

The Albums app, Vivo’s official gallery tool, includes AI features for post-capture editing, such as AI Photo Enhance and AI Erase, which performed admirably during my testing. Vivo has also improved the integration of the link to Windows feature compared to earlier iterations.

Along with Vivo’s proprietary apps, the X200 Pro includes several third-party applications like Snapchat, Myntra, LinkedIn, Netflix, and Facebook. Users have the option to uninstall these if they are considered unnecessary.

Vivo X200 Pro Battery: Impressive Progress

  • Battery Capacity: 6000mAh
  • Charging Speed: 90W FlashCharge
  • Wireless Charging: 30W

By 2025, a 6000mAh battery could become the benchmark for high-end Android smartphones, and Vivo is ahead of the curve here. The X200 Pro utilizes semi-solid battery technology, ensuring optimal performance even under extreme temperatures. It supports rapid charging at 90W and wireless charging at 30W.

It features 90W FlashCharge capability

In practical usage, the X200 Pro excels in battery longevity, providing over 10 hours of screen-on time across multiple testing scenarios. In an HD video loop test, the phone lasted an impressive 18 hours and 30 minutes. With heavy usage, it easily endures more than a day on a single charge, even with multiple background applications like Outlook, Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, Gmail, X, Instagram, YouTube, Canva, and Maps running, plus an hour of gaming. While performance may vary depending on usage, it is clear that the X200 Pro outperforms competing flagship devices like the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pixel 9 Pro XL in battery comparisons. Moreover, it can go from 0 to 100 percent in less than an hour, which is remarkable given the battery capacity.

In terms of battery performance, the Vivo X200 Pro stands out against competitors

Vivo X200 Pro Conclusion

The X200 Pro represents a remarkable achievement for Vivo, loaded with features that, when compared to any competitor within its price range, lead to a compelling advantage. While the initial audience for the device will likely be camera aficionados, it is evident that overall, the X200 Pro is Vivo’s finest smartphone to date in its ten-year history in India. It truly sets a high standard.

The phone includes a charging adapter in the packaging

The camera system will impress you, and the design will become more appealing over time spent with the X200 Pro. It’s efficient in terms of performance, and the software is the most polished Vivo has ever produced. The IP68 + IP69 ratings add reassurance for use in challenging environments. The battery performance is exceptional, establishing a high benchmark for other Android flagship devices. Minor drawbacks include some bloatware in the software, but users won’t be overwhelmed with unsolicited ads, and any skin tone inconsistencies can be mitigated by switching to Pro mode. The selfie camera does fall short—it’s adequate but far from outstanding.

If you are considering alternatives, the Oppo Find X8 Pro (Review) is the closest contender in terms of specifications and features. Other options such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (Review), Pixel 9 Pro XL (Review), and iPhone 16 Pro Max (Review) do exist; however, they come at a higher price point.
