Base Network Accelerates Transaction Speed by Tenfold with Flashblocks Update

The L2 network **Base** has launched an update called Flashblocks, which has reduced block creation times from two seconds to just 200 milliseconds.

*“From click to confirmation in an instant,”* commented the project team regarding the transaction speed.

This technology has been developed in collaboration with Flashbots and was tested on the Sepolia network starting in February.

With this enhancement, Base is set to compete with other L2 networks like **Arbitrum**, which has an average block time of around two seconds.

Developers believe this advancement will create opportunities for high-frequency trading, on-chain gaming, and rapid social interactions within the **new Base App**.

According to The Block, Base currently leads all Ethereum rollups in terms of daily active users.

In the DeFi ecosystem, it ranks sixth among networks by Total Value Locked (TVL).

Base can reach a peak of 1267 transactions per second (TPS) against a theoretical maximum of 1429 TPS. For comparison, Solana’s numbers stand at 2909 TPS and 65,000 TPS, according to Chainspect.

As of the time of writing, Base is recording 111.3 TPS, while the “people’s cryptocurrency” is at 1280 TPS.

It’s worth noting that in May, the Coinbase-supported network **recorded** nearly 1000 transactions per second.
