Unveiling the Rolls Royce Spectre: A Luxurious Leap into Electric Elegance in India

The prestigious automobile brand Rolls Royce has proudly introduced its inaugural EV in India, sparkling with elegance during a launch event held in New Delhi. This model, which made its debut in 2023 globally, will start at a price of Rs. 7.5 cr ex-showroom in India. Buyers will have the opportunity to enhance the vehicle with various optional features to tailor the coupe to their personal preferences. The manufacturer unveiled a striking dual-tone grey variant to the press.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Design

The Rolls Royce Spectre is a two-door coupe designed to seat four individuals. Measuring 5.5 meters in length, it boasts a drag coefficient of 0.25. The vehicle embodies the iconic design elements associated with the brand, including an illuminated grille and a revamped spirit of ecstasy that will be featured in future Rolls Royce models, along with the distinctive split headlights akin to those on the Phantom.

The vehicle measures 5475 mm in length and 2144 mm in width.

One notable aspect is the impressive 1.5-meter-long doors, which are the largest ever produced by Rolls Royce, exuding a sense of grandeur. These doors are sturdily constructed and although they are heavy, they open and close with ease. To enhance user convenience, Rolls Royce has incorporated automatic door controls, seamlessly operating the driver’s door, which is quite a noteworthy feature, especially given the vehicle’s price.

Located just beneath the doors are the turn indicators, elegantly encased in chrome branding. The Rolls Royce Spectre is fitted with substantial 23-inch wheels made from custom aluminum alloys featuring the Rolls Royce emblem, enhancing the car’s performance, according to the manufacturer.

To access the charging port, a simple push on the cover reveals the port.

The newly designed ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ retracts when the hood is opened from inside the vehicle, a standard feature across all new models from this esteemed brand.

The Rolls Royce Spectre features the revamped ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ with more pronounced wings.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Interiors

Even with its redesigned exterior, the interior retains the quintessential Rolls Royce essence, equipped with advanced technology.

The first feature that captured my attention was the Starlight for the doors. While the Starlight headliner may not be new, its combination with the expansive doors embellished with similar starry lights creates a mesmerizing visual.

This marks the first Rolls Royce to feature Starlight doors.

Though I didn’t have the chance to drive this model, it was evident that passengers would enjoy a serene ride, completely shielded from external noise. While filming inside the vehicle, my colleague and I noticed we couldn’t hear any outside chatter. The sound insulation in this car is unparalleled, as one would expect from a Rolls Royce.

The cabin of the Spectre is adorned with wood and other high-end materials.

The seats are crafted in a dual-tone hand-stitched design featuring the Rolls Royce logo on the headrests. The variant we examined showcased a sophisticated grey-orange color scheme. These seats offer exceptional comfort with the perfect balance of support. Additionally, the front armrest is upholstered in leather and integrates with a center console that includes door control switches, buttons for various infotainment functions, a navigation dial, and chrome-trimmed cup holders.

The rear seating area is easily accessible by pushing a button to move the front seats forward. The operation is notably smooth, though the experience while entering and exiting the rear seats didn’t quite align with expectations for a vehicle at this price point.

The Starlight headliner is included as standard in the Rolls Royce Spectre.

The interior is equipped with two digital displays, one serving the infotainment system, supported by Eleanor, the in-car virtual assistant, and the other serving the custom instrument dials. The infotainment interface features a large touchscreen that includes nearly every conceivable feature, such as wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and physical buttons for navigation and access to various system features.

Rolls Royce has utilized bespoke wood and leather throughout the cabin, infusing a high level of prestige that potential buyers desire. Each dial, air vent, button, and accessory evokes a timeless feel, all while offering extensive customization options.

The Spectre also boasts an illuminated panel that displays ‘Spectre’ against a piano black backdrop adorned with over 5,500 stars imitating the wings of the ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’.

The steering wheel stands out as a significant design element on the Spectre, featuring the classic Rolls Royce emblem centrally placed along with numerous controls easily accessible to the driver.

Rolls Royce Spectre: Performance

Alongside its luxurious attributes, this is fundamentally an EV, capable of covering 530 km on a single charge. The Rolls Royce Spectre is powered by a 102kWh battery, enabling charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 34 minutes using a 194kW (DC) charger, 10 to 80 percent in 95 minutes with a 50kW (DC) charger, and a full charge in 5 hours and 30 minutes via a 22kW (AC) charger, according to company specifications.

The Spectre comes fitted with 23-inch wheels featuring customized alloys.

Regarding performance, the Spectre produces 584 hp along with 900 NM of torque, characterized by its smooth delivery. This means that acceleration and deceleration are devoid of any abrupt shifts. It is equipped with dual electric motors: one for the front axle generating 365 NM and another for the rear axle delivering 710 NM. Rolls Royce asserts that the Spectre can accelerate from 0 to 100 km in merely 4.5 seconds, though we didn’t have the opportunity to confirm this.

Our Thoughts

For luxury automobile enthusiasts with ample finances, the experience of this car will undoubtedly be rewarding.
