Unqualified Leadership: Granat Highlights the Detrimental Impact on Russian Football

Former defender of the Russian national team, Vladimir Granat, commented on the criminal case involving the management of Moscow’s «Torpedo».

— What is happening in Russian football in recent months? Previously, there were situations involving «Khimki» and «Chernomorets,» and now it’s «Torpedo.»
— It seems that non-football individuals are in charge of the clubs. This is undoubtedly detrimental to Russian football. Ultimately, it’s the players who suffer the most, — Granat stated in an interview with «Championat» correspondent Vladislav Kruglov.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, announced that the co-owner of «Torpedo,» Leonid Sobolev, and the club’s general director, Valery Skorodumov, have been charged with attempting to bribe a referee with an amount exceeding 1 million rubles. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspects tried to influence the outcomes of at least three matches involving the team. On Saturday, the Meshchansky Court in Moscow placed Sobolev, Skorodumov, and the club’s accountant, Elena Volkova, under arrest for two months.
