Ukrainian Drones Target Moscows High-Rise Apartments Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian drones targeted at least two residential buildings in Moscow and its vicinity during the night, according to Russian media reports on Thursday, as officials attempted to minimize the extent of the damages.

Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that air defense systems intercepted three drones aimed at the city. He posted on Telegram that “there were no significant damages or injuries.”

Nevertheless, images shared by Telegram news channels revealed the burned exterior of a high-rise apartment building in the Troparyovo-Nikulino District of southwestern Moscow. Reports indicate that this building is situated about 800 meters (0.5 miles) from Russia’s Military Academy of the General Staff.

Another video captured a drone crashing into the upper floor of a tall building in Odintsovo, a town located to the west of Moscow, near the Skolkovo technology hub.

Operations at Vnukovo International Airport, which is situated to the southwest of the capital, were temporarily halted and resumed after more than an hour.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that it shot down 48 Ukrainian drones in six regions overnight, including Moscow and annexed Crimea.

In the past two weeks, both Russia and Ukraine have intensified air attacks, despite having resumed direct talks earlier this month. On Monday, the Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed 2,331 Ukrainian drones within a week and accused Kyiv of attempting to obstruct peace talks.
