Kazakh court extends arrest of Nazarbayev’s nephew and matchmaker | Latest News

The nephew of the former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kairat Satybaldyuly, and the matchmaker of the former head of state, Kairat Boranbayev, who are in custody, have their arrest extended for one month, Tengrinews.kz reports today, May 13, citing the press service of the capital court

“On May 10, the specialized inter-district investigative court of Nur-Sultan extended the term of the authorized measure of restraint in the form of detention for a period of one month in relation to the suspect Boranbaev K.S. On May 12, the specialized inter-district investigative court of Nur-Sultan extended the term of the authorized measure of restraint in the form of detention for a period of one month against the suspect Satybaldyuly K.,» the press service reported.

Kairat Satybaldyuly was detained on March 13 as part of a criminal case on the facts of abuse of official powers and embezzlement of funds of Kazakhtelecom JSC on an especially large scale. Satybaldyuly was detained on the territory of the Almaty airport when he was about to fly to the UAE.

His wife is also under arrest. Gulmira Satybaldy. She is suspected of involvement in the raider seizure of the business.

Kairat Boranbaev was detained on March 17 as part of a criminal case on the fact of embezzlement on an especially large scale in the quasi-public sector.

In early May, it became known that Satybaldyuly and Boranbaev were excluded from the list of the richest people in Kazakhstan in the Forbes ranking.
