The United States has trained more than 220 Ukrainian troops to use the M777 155mm howitzer in combat, with more than 150 more being trained. This was announced on May 6 by the press secretary of the Pentagon John Kirby at a regular briefing for journalists.
“To date, more than 220 Ukrainian military personnel have been trained on the M777, and over 150 more people are currently being trained. [по применению] howitzers,” he said.
The spokesman added that 15 Ukrainian servicemen have been trained to use AN/TPQ-64 3D short and medium range radars for use in air defense systems for direct guidance.
“60 Ukrainian servicemen have been trained in M113 armored personnel carriers, and about 50 more are currently being trained in them,” Kirby added.
He also said that “the vast majority of [обещанных властями США] 90 howitzers are on the territory of Ukraine, but not all of them.” Kirby added that approximately 60% of the planned 144,000 artillery shells had been delivered to Kyiv.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced on February 24 a military operation in response to the request of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. He stressed that Moscow’s plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, and the goals are the demilitarization and denazification of the country. The United States and its allies responded by imposing large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation and began supplying arms to Kyiv. Ambassador of Russia to the USA Anatoly Antonov previously warned that the militarization of Ukraine by the West directly threatens European and global security.
