State Duma speaker Volodin called for the confiscation of business assets from countries unfriendly to the Russian Federation | News | News

The state should respond to the confiscation of property and the freezing of reserves by seizing business assets from unfriendly countries, State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel.

“House of Representatives USA passed a law allowing the transfer Ukraine frozen assets of Russian companies and citizens. A dangerous precedent has been created that should boomerang on the States themselves, ”he wrote.

Volodin expressed confidence that this would not affect the Russian economy, since “the seized yachts, villas and other property of wealthy citizens did not work for its development anyway.” In addition, Volodin said that Russia’s gold and foreign exchange reserves would be returned.

According to him, Russian entrepreneurs buy foreign companies operating in the Russian Federation, buy out partners’ shares and, in general, “act in a civilized manner in accordance with international law.” This cannot be said about “unfriendly countries” – LithuaniaLatvia, PolandUSA, “which are just stealing,” he stressed.

The speaker of the State Duma proposed to respond with mirror measures and confiscate business assets of unfriendly countries “where such decisions are made.” He offered to direct the proceeds from the sale to the development of the country.

On April 28, it became known that the President of the United States Joe Biden will send a proposal to Congress to expand the powers of the government of the country to seizure of Russian-related assets and their transfer in favor of Ukraine.

On the same day, Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, told Izvestiya that the approval by the US House of Representatives of a project under which the authorities can send seized assets of foreigners to support Ukraine demonstrates that Washington “does not write any laws.” According to him, “the United States long ago violated all norms of international law“.

In turn, the representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov called the US intention to confiscate the property of businessmen from Russia and send the proceeds to help Ukraine a dangerous precedent.

Western sanctions followed after Russia began holding operations for the protection of civilians in Donbass. AT Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the backdrop of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
