Пользователи возмущены новыми комиссиями Ledger за мультиподписи Translation: Users outraged by Ledgers new fees for multisig transactions

The new feature of multisig in Ledger wallets has sparked a backlash among users due to established base fees.

The business solution Ledger Multisig was introduced alongside the launch of the new hardware model, Nano Gen5. The company also rebranded the Ledger Live app as Ledger Wallet.

The multisig technology has become the first native coordination system for Ledger, enabling the grouping of transactions into clusters through a backend. Prior to this, users relied on third-party tools like Specter or Sparrow.

However, the initial excitement from the community over the technology’s convenience shifted to outrage once the fees were revealed. According to the project’s website, users will need to pay for «service maintenance» in addition to covering gas costs on the blockchain.

The pricing consists of two variables:

Moreover, confusion was exacerbated by a post from Ledger’s CTO, Charles Guillemet. He claimed that the «best part» of the update was the «free» Ledger Multisig, later admitting it was a «typo.»

Guillemet specified that the fees reflect the costs of maintaining infrastructure and auditing necessary to support the additional security layers of the service.

Blockchain researcher and developer operating under the alias pcaversaccio labeled the company’s strategy as a «cash cow.» He stated that such an approach could turn multisig users into a source of corporate revenue.

A developer in the Avalanche ecosystem known as Sarnavo added that «trust is now becoming a paid feature.» He also pointed out the closed-source nature of the Ledger app itself.

«Security shouldn’t monetize every transaction,» he emphasized.

It’s worth noting that in July, Ledger announced the discontinuation of software updates for the Nano S hardware wallet due to its limited memory capacity.
